Before the town received its name, it was a part of the Third Parish of Hampton. The name was derived from the water falls on the Taylor River that provided power to the mills of the Weare Family. Meschech Weare, a dynamo of New Hampshire politics, helped write the first constitution in 1776 and was eventually elected Governor. The town also has a memorial to Weare. The Congregational Church was founded by Puritan settlers in 1638. The church had to be tax-supported by male citizens, but its governance was entwined with that of the town. During the Puritan century (1625-1725), the church was the center of almost everyone’s life. In addition to being a religious institution, Hampton Town owned the church building, which was known as the Meeting House.  Check it out here

This community is largely residential. Located just off Route 95, the town also has a small business community on Route 1. The town boasts an agricultural supply store, country store, and shopper’s village, along with restaurants, antique shops, and other establishments. It is also home to one of the oldest apple orchards in the United States. The town also has a free public library and a Marsh Lane Conservation Reserve.
