Although the population of East Kingston is relatively small, it is a thriving town. The town’s total area is just over 10 square miles (25.8 km2). The town has a low murder rate, and it’s home to some notable historical figures. The community was incorporated on 17 November 1738 and separated from the neighboring town of Kingston. The fifty-three original petitioners were Jeremy Webster, Nathan Batchelder, Ebenezer Webster, Phinehas Batchelder, William Whickee, Isaac Godfrey, and Josiah Tilton. In 1739, Rev. Peter Coffin settled in East-Kingston and was dismissed in 1792. In the same year, Jeremiah Morrill left a bequest for East-Kingston and its citizens.
